Democrats Melissa Merk and Edward Merriman have announced their candidacy for two open seats on the Newtown Township Board of Supervisors.

If elected, the longtime township residents said they will incorporate their keen listening, team management, and conflict resolution skills into their roles as members of the board of supervisors.

Together the running mates said they would bring a fresh set of eyes and new solutions to maintaining fiscal responsibility; ensuring all voices are heard; advocating for sustainable practices that protect the environment; and supporting development that enhances the township’s walkability while preserving its character.

Edward Merriman
Candidate for Newtown Township Supervisor
A Newtown resident for almost a decade, Ed brings a diverse background in software development, team leadership, and community service. Ed has worked in technology, supported military initiatives, and volunteered as a Judge of Elections. Outside of work, he’s an avid motorcyclist, musician, and outdoor enthusiast. With a commitment to thoughtful, data-driven decision‑making, Ed is eager to help Newtown balance growth, maintain fiscal responsibility, and continue fostering a strong, vibrant community for all its residents.

As a proud Council Rock graduate who raised her family in Newtown, Melissa is committed to keeping Newtown a wonderful place for everyone. Her priorities are maintaining green, open space, listening to the voices of Newtown residents, and making fiscally responsible decisions. With over two decades of experience as a lawyer, Melissa is excited to bring her skills in leadership, problem-solving and collaboration to the Newtown Board of Supervisors.
